LE08: The Moeraki Boulders, New Zealand
These almost perfectly spherical boulders can be found off the Otago coast on New Zealand's South Island. They're actually septarian concretions i.e. they formed around a nucleus in the sediment of ancient seas.This shot was taken of a group partially submerged by the rising tide. It was well after sunset so the light carried this blue cast and I needed a long shutter speed, which gives the choppy water a silky smooth texture and brings out faint reflections of the boulders.
